Since its inception, Montreal Children’s Hospital has maintained a dedication to pioneering new treatments and establishing innovative approaches to complex medical problems. Most recently, the hospital introduced thoracoscopic repair techniques for congenital diaphragmatic hernias in newborns. In addition, the staff recently began using high frequency jet ventilation for children with severe lung disease. The hospital is also a locus for important children’s health research. Dr. Michael S. Kramer earned an election to the Royal Society of Canada, Division of Life Science, in 2011 for his research on nutrition conducted at Montreal Children’s Hospital. His work has had a significant impact on public policy.

Endeavoring to address the needs of Canadians, Montreal Children’s Hospital teamed with Shriners Hospitals for Children to create a joint clinic for the treatment of congenital chest wall deformities. This center is the first of its kind in Canada and joins the ranks of only a few others in North America.
